Waiakea swept Keaau 5-0 and 18-2 in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I baseball semifinal series Saturday at the Warriors field.

Waiakea swept Keaau 5-0 and 18-2 in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I baseball semifinal series Saturday at the Warriors field.

In the first game, Kodi Medeiros fired a two-hitter in the 5-0 win with 14 strikeouts and only two walks in his last appearance at his home field.

Justin Quesada took the loss. He lasted six innings, allowed five runs, walked two and struck out one.

In the first inning, the Warriors scored three runs on a two-run error and Devin Iwahashi’s RBI single.

Caleb Freitas-Fields batted 2 for 2 and Taylor Mondina had two RBIs to lead Waiakea.

In the second game, sophomore Freitas-Fields pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed two unearned runs on two hits and a walk, and whiffed four. Bryson Nakao got two outs.

Keian Kanetani pitched four innings in the loss. He yielded 13 runs, five unearned, on 13 hits and four walks. Rason Martines didn’t record an out, but gave up four runs on no hits and walked four. Anson Kauwe pitched an inning and allowed a run.

Medeiros batted 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Grant Nonaka was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Nathan Minami was 2 for 3, and Matt Camacho went 2 for 2.

Richard Hatori-Kanakaole was 2 for 2 to lead Keaau.

Waiakea (11-1) advances to the BIIF championship series.

The season is over for the Cougars (2-10).
